Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

auto18n is a translation API operated by Auto18n Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (support@auto18n.com). This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It applies to the website, dashboard, and API.

2. What we collect

  • Account data — name, email address, and a salted hash of your password (we never store the password itself). Team names and roles.
  • Translation content — the text you send for translation and the translations produced. These are stored in our translation cache (see section 4).
  • Usage data — request counts, token counts, character counts, costs, API key identifiers, and timestamps, used for billing and the usage dashboard.
  • Billing data — handled by Stripe. We store your Stripe customer ID and balance; we never see or store full card numbers.
  • Technical data — IP addresses (for rate limiting and abuse prevention; not stored with analytics) and server logs containing request identifiers and error details.
  • Page-view counts — we count visits to our own pages anonymously: the page path and the referring site only. No IP address, identifier, or cookie is stored with these counts.
  • Cookies — a session cookie to keep you signed in and a locale preference cookie. We do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

3. How we use data

To provide and bill the Service, serve cached translations, enforce rate and free-tier limits, prevent abuse, debug failures, and communicate with you about your account. We do not sell personal data or use your content for advertising.

4. The translation cache — read this before sending sensitive text

To make repeat translations instant and free, we store source text and translations in a cache:

  • Platform mode — cache entries are deduplicated across all customers, keyed by the exact source text, language pair, and model. If two customers translate the identical string, the second request is served from the entry created by the first.
  • BYOK mode (your own model key) — cache entries are private to your team and your model; they are never shared with or visible to other teams.

Avoid sending personal data or confidential material you would not want stored; if you must, use BYOK mode or contact us about cache deletion. We delete cached entries on verified request.

5. Who processes data for us

We share data only with the providers needed to run the Service:

  • Vercel — application hosting and logs
  • Supabase — database hosting (account, usage, cache data)
  • Stripe — payments and billing
  • AI model providers (via our gateway, currently OpenAI-family models) — receive the text you submit, solely to produce translations

We may disclose data where required by law. If the business is acquired, data transfers with it under this policy.

6. Retention

  • Account and usage data — for the life of your account.
  • Cached translations — until you ask us to delete them or your account is deleted (platform-mode shared entries may persist in anonymized form, since they are not linked to you once another customer has independently created the same entry).
  • Server logs — typically 30 days.
  • Billing records — as long as tax and accounting law requires.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g. GDPR or UK GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict processing. Email support@auto18n.com and we will respond within 30 days. You can also delete API keys and disable auto-refill yourself in the dashboard.

8. Security

All traffic is encrypted in transit (TLS). Passwords are hashed with bcrypt; API keys are stored only as SHA-256 hashes. Access to production systems is limited to the operator. No system is perfectly secure — report suspected vulnerabilities to support@auto18n.com.

9. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

10. Changes

We will announce material changes to this policy on the website or by email before they take effect.
